In Oregon, the U.S. Cross Country Skiing team for the United States of America spent their Memorial Day Weekend. Mt. Bachelor, a mountain, is found in Oregon and it still has snow at this time this year.

For the 2011 World Championship season, the team is really trying to get as much work in as they can in preparation. They are going to need to spend a lot of time on the snow, if they want to get prepared properly. With snow available locally, the team jumped at the opportunity to stay around and get onto the powder.

The team seems to have the right chemistry to push each other, to be better and it has really built a bond together. To see a team that really gets along and pushes each other to be their best, it is always great for fans and supporters. One of their team’s goals is to reach the top of their potential. In helping them reach their full capacity, spending holiday weekends like this at work will go a long way.

At the camp, the United States Cross Country Ski team was not the only team present there. By the Canadian national team, they were joined. The Canadians also saw the chance to get out into the snow and jumped at the opportunity.

Through the weekend until June 4, the team stayed at the camp, when they departed from Mt. Bachelor and beautiful Oregon.

At this year’s Winter Olympics, Whistler Mountain near Vancouver is the site of the downhill skiing events. The unpredictable weather condition at the Whistler Mountain has been the run off the mill story. Rain blanketed Vancouver and was causing very slushy and messy conditions early in the games. Though the snow has been wet and slushy at the beginning, conditions improved and the snow for the downhill events got fast and tight and gave the BC Olympic crowds something to cheer about. The weather seems to be more winter like and has quelled and thus has allowed for better runs. Sports betting odds are always available with different sportsbooks.

The United States’ Bode Miller finally got his long awaited gold medal in the Super Combined and stands at three medals at this year’s games. The downhill and Alpine events for the men have been all about Bode Miller in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. If Miller is able to score another medal from rest of his events left in this years’ contest then he will become the first Winter Olympian to garner four medals in the Alpine competitions. ‘The Comeback Kid’ Bode Miller will be the one name that will come to mind when the Vancouver Winter Olympics goes down in the history books as far as downhill skiing goes. So stay tuned for the best possible sports betting action in Men’s downhill skiing. You can bet on sports with your favorite sportsbooks.

Alexandre Bilodeau ended Canada’s agonizing gold medal drought and became a national hero Sunday night when he took the top prize in men’s freestyle moguls.

The grueling event requires athletes navigate a maze of waist high bumps in record time and score style points on two serious mid-course jumps.

Bilodeau had been considered a possible contender to medal since his 11th place finish in Torino, however Canadian fans erupted as if he had pulled a stunning upset when he edged out Australia’s Dale Begg-Smith by the thinnest of margins.

Bryon Wilson of the United States took bronze to round out the medal stand. Two nights prior, the home town pressure had proven too much for women’s free style favorite Jenn Heil was upset on the final run of the day by upstart American Hannah Kearney of Vermont.

Sure to be one of the most enduring stories of the games, Bilodeau’s victory set off gleeful celebrations across the land and is sure to land his face on a postage stamp in the future. With gold around his neck and the weight of a whole country off his shoulders, Bilodeau raised his arms on the medal podium as “Oh, Canada” finally played for the home crowd.

I hope you were able to place your online bet for some of these great races.

Cross-country, or Nordic skiing, originated in ancient Scandinavia, where the Norse people adapted to their wintry homeland by using skis to travel, hunt, and defend themselves from invaders. The earliest record of a skier dates back to 2000 B.C. Skiing was an efficient mode of transportation in Arctic or mountainous region of Europe and North America. Today, cross-country skiing has evolved into a form of recreation enjoyed by all ages.

The are three styles of cross-country skiing which includes classical, ski-skating and Nordic downhill. Traditional classical skiing involves the diagonal stride, double poling, kicks with double pole, the uphill diagonal stride and the herringbone. Classical skis must be waxed before each use, the type of wax depending on the temperature and the snow conditions.

Free-style or ski-skating is a relatively new sport. Some of the maneuvers used in ski-skating include marathon skate, no-pole skating, diagonal V skate, the V 1, the V2, and the V2 Alternate. Ski-skating is designed to be done on a groomed track where skiers will glide across the hard packed snow. Loose, deep snow will cause even the most advanced skier to fatigue sooner rather than later. Ski-skating, in my opinion, is the most fun kind of skiing there is. It’s fast and it’s one of the best cardiovascular workouts around. These skis do not need to be waxed very often, which is an added bonus if you find waxing a tedious job. Most people will find ski-skating to be relatively easy, though, in the beginning their technique will not be very pretty to watch. Most people have poor poling technique in the beginning and tire easily. Sometimes, a lesson or two will go a long way to help your skating but it gets easier with each time out, even without a lesson.

A new hybrid sport known as Nordic downhill has emerged in the last few years. This sport combines Nordic and Alpine ski moves and mixed the best of both worlds. Metal-edged skis that are lighter than Alpine skis but offer more control than Nordic are used. A heavier boot and a tougher Nordic binding leaves the heels of the skier free to execute telemark turns on the same terrain as Alpine skiers. Steep and thrilling descents and back-country exploration is the province of these skiers. This sport blends moves such as the wedge, the wedge turn,, the wedge Christie, the parallel turn, the telemark turn and the skate turn.

So, as you can see, there is lots of choice is choosing which type of skiing to do or if you want, why not try all three?

There are three very important traits that men must convey: virility, strength, and excitement. Virility both in the sexual and non-sexual sense is very important to be possessed by a man because it reflects his passion for life and the world. His strength-emotional, physical, and mental-must be worn to be practiced, used, and seen because nobody gets interested in a man who lacks self-confidence. He must also communicate excitement because a man with no excitement in him is much deader than a dead one. Ski jackets men are efficient and effective conveyors of these traits because they are elegant, stylish, and at the same time durable and dependable.

The Cool Styles

Ski jackets men are very useful. They are practical clothing items that every man must have. Their uses vary according to their styles. Some of the prominent styles of ski jackets men are:

- The arctic jacket, which is also known as parka or hooded-style. It is fit for extreme cold weather uses. Men who are into skiing, fishing in the snow, and other extreme weather sports or recreation would greatly benefit from them.

- Ball jacket type that is preferred by those who are into baseball or football but could still be used in skiing. It is casual in style with knitted cuffs and zippered front. It can be worn to work and casual gathering to ward off the coldness of the environment.

- Field jacket style that is associated with military men who fought at the fronts of wars in cold enemy lines. It is ideal for hiking and other heavy outdoor tasks.

- Flight jacket style that is also known as the bomber jacket but with the material fit to stand the tear and wear of cold winds.

Impressive Features

The ski jackets men possess very impressive features regardless of their styles. These shared features are:

- Great capability to retain the body heat and the same time provide ventilation. The first protects the body from getting cold due to the coldness of the environment. The second prevents overheating of the body and the temperature inside the jacket.

- Insulation against the wind and the biting cold by directly deflecting the penetrating cold temperature.

- Water proof thus they keep the skin free from liquid that could make the internal body freeze.

- The ski jackets men provide the wearer a lot of motion freedom. They do not inhibit the movements and natural physical strength of men. They can be worn in doing tasks that require a lot of physical power. Some of these physical tasks include lifting of lumber, truck driving, and even skiing.

- Durable material and seams that do not get easily torn when subjected to great physical pressure such as the blowing winds, hailstorm, and even the sheer strength of the men wearer who extend their body to the front, back, and sides as they perform their tasks.

- Pockets that would serve storage and safekeeping purposes.

- Great colors and styles that reflect so much about the wearer.

Dale Begg-Smith has strengthened his claims as one of Australia’s hottest medal hopes in Turin and will spearhead the country’s largest ski and snowboard representation at a Winter Olympic Games.

The Canadian-born 21-year-old mogul skier capped an outstanding few days when he won a third World Cup round on Sunday, triumphing at Lake Placid, New York, where his second victory, on Friday, elevated him to world No.1.

The latest win gave him 405 points in the World Cup standings, putting him 109 points clear of his nearest rival, Alexandre Bilodeau of Canada.

Dale Begg-Smith results are a major boost for Ski & Snowboard Australia, which finalised its team for Turin on Sunday by including former world champion Jacqui Cooper, who won the fourth and final place on the aerial ski team.

Selectors gave their discretionary pick to Cooper ahead of Laine Cole and Bree Munro to join automatic selections Alisa Camplin, Lydia Ierodiaconou and Liz Gardner.

The Australian Olympic Committee is scheduled to name its full Games team, expected to number about 40, tomorrow. For the first time, SSA has been able to nominate more than one athlete in every discipline – alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding – with 25 set to compete in Turin.

SSA chief executive Michael Kennedy was delighted at the progress that had been made in the past four years.

“We sent five athletes to Salt Lake City 2002 who had won World Cup medals, but this team contains nine athletes who have made World Cup podiums,” Kennedy said.

“In the four years prior to the 2002 Games, our athletes had won 35 World Cup medals, whereas in the past four years leading up to [Turin] we have collected 54 medals.”

Begg-Smith, who came out to Australia six years ago with his older brother Jason and stayed out of competitive skiing for three years to qualify for Australia, has confirmed his place as a strong medal hope in Turin in one of the most competitive sports.

Olympic Winter Institute of Australia CEO Geoff Lipshut was delighted with Begg-Smith’s form, which has extended to three consecutive winning runs.

“It’s fantastic,” Lipshut said. “He’s doing it when it counts at the moment, he understands the game and he’s got good skills. He

is very strong mentally, and when you qualify first in an event like this, you’re the last person to ski, so you have to watch everyone else and then know what you have to beat and withstand all that pressure, and not everyone does that.”

Mogul skiing is traditionally dominated by North Americans, and Lipshut said an Olympic medal in the event would rank among Australia’s greatest sporting achievements. “Dale is right up there,” he said. “He’s a medal hope with 12 others – there’s him, four Americans, four Canadians and four Finns, and a medal would be an amazing because this is one of the tough events and it’s a tough business.”

“In events like this, the US are usually so strong they can go one-two-three-four and any one of 12 of their skiers could be Olympic medallists, so it’s a renewed sense of confidence for us and vindication for our system, our coaching and our talent.”

Begg-Smith was an emerging skier when he arrived in Jindabyne via Melbourne about six years ago, and spent most of his time becoming technically proficient through Australian training programs as he and Jason, now 25, stood out of competitive skiing while waiting for their Australian citizenship to be processed.
